Weekend Homework
Something I’d like to start on Long Relationships is weekend homework. Every Friday, I’d like to give you something you can do with your significant other, friend, or family member – long relationships aren’t limited to romantic relationships – over the weekend.
This weekend, your homework assignment is a pleasant one, and it is one you can do with your significant other, your family members or your friends. It can be adapted in as many ways as you like.
Your first weekend homework assignment is all about cultivating good feelings and remembering good times.
For couples and friends, think back to when you first met. What was the day like? When did you meet? Where did you meet? How did you catch each other’s eyes? What did you think of each other? Name the most memorable moment for each of you from your first meeting. Do you have any mementos from the occasion? Why not get them out and refresh your memories even more?
For family members, have a chat session over a meal or coffee and talk about ‘firsts’. What were your first words? When was the first time you had a family vacation? What are your favourite family traditions? Consider getting out old pictures and scrapbooks if you have them.
The goal of this exercise is simply to feel good. To look back and see how far you’ve come as a family, as friends, or as lovers. Sometimes thinking back to the beginning of things can help you to strengthen bonds and realize things you are now taking for granted.
Have fun, and please comment and let me know how it went!
