Holiday relationship survival tip #1
Let me be the first to admit that not every Thanksgiving turns out as mindfully as I wrote yesterday. Sometimes the turkey is dry, the guests are early, the side dishes are cold and the family gets cranky! Sometimes, all you’re thankful for is that no one stomped out of the kitchen angry—and into the garage for some “quiet. I have some tips from my past disasters, to help you sidestep any landmines this holiday! May they bring you a bit of laughter or good use…
Men, if there are more than two women in the kitchen—steer clear! Don’t go in! Tell your wife that the “football game of the century is on and if she lets you watch it, you’ll take KP duty—or do just about anything to avoid any holiday disharmony!
Volunteer to do any last minute shopping for her. Though this can wreek havoc as well—for example, if you mistakenly buy Cool Whip after she specifically said Redi-Whip!
If you volunteer to help by deep-frying the turkey, make sure that in no way does the mess or smell otherwise hamper the work in the kitchen or the ambiance of the dining room.
Lastly, she may just appreciate your help in orchestrating (this means congregating in the family room with beer) the other guys in the house.
Whatever you do, remember the stress (no matter how silly you may think it is) that goes into preparing this meal. Be respectful and appreciative that she would go to the trouble no matter how it all turns out!
