Our Story - His Neverending Love

Monday, December 31st, 2007

candle.jpgIn Our Story, my aim to to share stories of special love. These are stories of love that are funny, sad, and special if only for the people who share them if not for the multitude of other reasons.

Today I bring you a story from a friend who has become a dear friend in just a few conversations.

I proudly present to you the most beautiful true story I have ever heard. Please read it.

I was sixteen when we first met… and she was much older than I was, in many ways. I was working on the Kings River for a white water rafting company as a guide, taking people on rafting trips and setting up the base camp… it was wonderful work during the summer. I was young, for a guide, and proud of it. In truth though I was much older than my years allowed, and those around me respected my kind manner. I had many friends working alongside me and the work itself was more play than work. It was the best year of my life.

It was a Saturday and the river was in top form. I’d watched her since the moment she stepped out of the tour bus - a beautiful woman, extremely tall, copper curls and a warm but sneaky smile. She captured me right off.

I was surprised and quite glad to find her with my group during the trip down river. I took them on some particularly dodgy rapids, just to see if I could spill her out… akin to punching your crush, I suppose… but she was clinging to the raft and grinning from ear to ear the entire time. When we finally settled back at the camp, we continually caught each other staring, smiling and giggling whenever our eyes met.

Later that night, as the bonfire was winding down and people were returning to their tents, her friend decided to try swimming under the influence. I’m not sure how much she had to drink, but by the time I found out about it, she was already in the middle of the river and doing a poor job of staying afloat.

I never broke stride, diving straight in and swimming out to her as quickly as I could. (more…)

Our First Christmas

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

heart.jpgHello everyone. I hope you had a lovely holiday.

I had a lovely quiet day with my husband exchanging presents, eating yummy food, and enjoying each other’s company. My husband learned that I really am telling the truth when I say I absolutely love office supplies and am very happy receiving them on special occasions.

This Christmas was neither our first as a couple nor our first together physically. However, this Christmas was our first as a married couple.

Thinking about that, I remembered back to our first Christmas together physically and all the awkwardness caused by it. It was a fun Christmas and exciting because we got to give each other gifts for the first time.

I regard that as my worst gift giving season. I was thankful my husband’s birthday is in January because I felt more comfortable and did a better job of getting him nice things I thought he would like instead of what people were saying I ’should’ get him.

(Let’s just say we ended up both getting each other massagers, which was funny, but there was a sexy nightie present that didn’t quite work out as planned.)

Do you have any ‘our first Christmas’ funny, embarrassing, or sweet stories?

You can email me all your first Christmas together stories (be it this past Christmas or many Christmases ago) and I’ll post them up here on site. Share the good, bad, and ugly and whatever else you care to share.

If you have just a little snippet to share, post a comment and let us know!

My Proposal Story

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Wedding RingsI’m a lucky woman in many ways. One way, though, is because my husband proposed twice.

We met online, but it was still very love-filled from the beginning. We flirted, we laughed, and we spent many hours every day talking to each other. It was pretty much understood from early on that, though it would take a while, we would both save up so we could meet and eventually try living together.

My hubby wanted things to be special when he proposed, so he didn’t propose online because it just wasn’t the same. I understood he wanted to marry me and I wanted to marry him as well. I wanted a proposal, but I also wanted it to be special.

Our Story - Beth and Husband

Monday, November 26th, 2007

candle.jpgEvery Monday I take your love stories and post them up here for the world to read. You can email me your story (and a picture if you so choose) and I will post it here.

Today I have the honor of posting the story of 451Press’ resident astrologist Beth Turnage of Astrology Explored. I hope you enjoy reading her and her husband’s story as much as I did.

My current husband and I met when we were seventeen. We met at our part-time job, which was at the local hospital kitchen. He kept asking me out, and I kept turning him down, but he didn’t give up. He’d trade off jobs with his friends so he could work the station closest to mine so he could talk to me.

Eventually I gave in and we dated several months, but he had a double life, so to speak. When he was with me he was an angel. You couldn’t have asked for a kinder or sweeter boy. When he wasn’t, he gave the devil a run for his money. When I found out, I told him good-bye. I just didn’t want to deal with that stuff. However, I was heart broken, and so was he.

Fast forward seventeen years later. I am divorced with three children. He sends me a postcard saying “I never stopped thinking about you.” Of course, he didn’t have a return address on the postcard. It was, however, a postcard from the company he worked for, which was as it turned out a commercial fishing operation. I go to the library, find three companies with that name and start calling their personnel offices until I find the right one.

Our Story - Randi and Scooter

Monday, November 19th, 2007

istock_000000969987small.jpg
Today I have the pleasure of posting up the story of Randi and Scooter, two of my favourite people on 451Press. I hope you’ll enjoy their story as much as I did.

My first real boyfriend was a very strange man. He wouldn’t wear jeans (and all I wear is jeans), he was obsessed with anime porn and martial arts, and he had tons of plans that never came to fruition. But, I loved him! I moved in with him and a bunch of other college students my second year in college and, by the third year, he and I were living alone.

That’s when things started crumbling. I did what any woman in love would do – I panicked. I could feel us unraveling and I didn’t want to be alone. One day he came to me and said, “Randi – I’ve met someone. The thing is, she’s exactly like you used to be…before you became a bitch. Talk about painful!

I was upset, especially since his new crush was 16 and he was 23, so I tried to get pregnant. Yeah, I’m a moron – but, in my defense, I was a 20 year old moron! Fortunately I was unable to get pregnant. We were still living together, however, because neither of us could afford to live alone. Thankfully he never brought his new twennie-bopper to the apartment. One day my mother looked at me and said, “I know this guy you should meet. I work with him. His name is Scooter. There are a few things you should know:

1. My mother HATED my last boyfriend, and would do anything to get me away from him.
2. I have extremely low self esteem.
3. I had NO plans on dating a guy named “Scooter – I mean, come on!

“Show him my picture, I said, “If he doesn’t run, I’ll meet him.

A week or so later I had borrowed my ex’s car to go to my mother’s house. I was availing myself of her much better water pressure and taking a shower when I heard a deep voice boom up the stairs. “HELLO? I finished my shower, got dressed, and braided my moderately long hair into two braids, Wednesday Addams style. Yeah, I know, extremely sexy. I walked down the stairs to see my mother’s friend’s daughter sitting on the couch.

“Is there a guy in the kitchen? I asked quietly.

“Yes. She replied.

“Is he…cute?

“Ummm…I dunno…I guess. I got worried and then realized that the girl was 10 or so and was definitely not a good judge of adult cuteness.

I bravely walked into the kitchen and saw a guy sitting in the chair. He had hair that was so dark that it was almost blue, a goatee, and….suspenders?! Yeah – there was NO way I was dating a guy named “Scooter who wore suspenders.

Our Story - Sebastian and Anastasia

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Last week I asked you to send in your stories. The stories of your love, your life, your time with your significant other.

The first entry I received wasn’t quite what I had in mind when I asked, but I think it is so creative and sweet, I’m going to put it up anyway. Enjoy.

danas_story_1.jpgOur two characters (and such characters!) are named Anastasia and Sebastian. And until only a couple of years ago, they hadn’t the vaguest inkling that the other existed. How strange then, that the poor lad Sebastian would become so enamored with Anastasia that she would never be far from his thoughts and dreams from the day they met until this very moment.

This entire story is true. Only the names, places, and events have been changed.

#1 – “Summer Loving - from Grease

Sebastian met Anastasia at work. Or more accurately, on the way to work. Somehow, field work fit both of them perfectly, and the hour ride to and from the fields allowed such conversation that started a friendship unparalleled in this century. The farm season ended, and the two promised to call on each other throughout the following year despite attending separate schools. And so they did.

#2 – “There She Goes – The Boo Radleys

Sebastian finished his summer and entered his school year in an unprecedented high. Anastasia was undoubtedly the cause. A happier girl he had never met, and there was something about everything she did that made Sebastian the happiest guy in the world. When he had to leave for a weeklong vacation soon after the season ended, the withdrawal symptoms nearly killed the two. At the end of the summer he asked her if she would be his, to which he received a regretful rebuff. Already displaying its incredible strength, their friendship remained intact.

#3 – “All For You – Sister Hazel

Anastasia captivated Sebastian. (more…)

Our Story

Monday, October 29th, 2007

ringinbox_1.jpgI thought it would be appropriate to tell you a little about my relationship, given I’ll likely be talking about my husband and our lives a lot. (The picture is of my wedding ring.)

I met my husband online through our mutual online friend in October 2005. We hit it off right away, falling in love over casual flirting and a lot of science. I was, unfortunately, with someone else at the time, but I knew I wanted B in my life and that we couldn’t be just friends.

He and I officially became a couple not long after we were introduced.

After a year of many emotions, learning to maintain a long distance relationship, phone calls, texts, and video chats, we began planning my departure from the US. We made an agreement that I would fly out there and we would give being together in person a try. If it didn’t work, I would move into the spare room until I could find a place and job of my own.

Thankfully, it worked out fabulously. One night as he was at his computer and I sat on the couch playing on my laptop, he suddenly spun around and got on his knees in front of me. I looked at him, confused, and then he asked me to marry him.

We got married on May 5th of this year.

This is a very much shortened version of events, but I could write pages about the progression of our relationship. More of the details will probably come out in my future posts, anyway.

I would like to invite all readers here to send me the story of your relationship. Be it only how you met or the entire story up until now. Feel free to send it to me either by using the “contact me button under the site description on the right or by emailing me. I’d like to start posting up a story each Monday.

(Feel free to send me what you send Lyndsey for the contest she has!)
