Fiction Scribe is giving away a copy of DCS’ Synarchy Book 1: The Awakening!

Thirteen bloodlines, The Brotherhood, fanatically loyal to their gods, the Anunnaki, have controlled the planet since his-story was written. In 1925 Stefano Vasco Terenzio, head of the Terenzio crime family makes a deal with the Anunnaki to solidify his control over the American Mafia. Clever and manipulative, Stefano’s true goal was to put his family in a position so one day they would be able to turn on their masters. Two generations later, the shockwave he ignited was still being felt. Now, as the world inches closer to 2012, time is running out.

The only thing in the Brotherhoods way is Terenzio, a family now divided as a truly epic battle begins that will determine whether mankind continues existing in a world of lies, or shatters the chains that have held it prisoner since his-story was written. Shocking yet hopeful, Synarchy slowly unravels the tightly laced reality we have created for ourselves. Blending the metaphysical with conspiracy, fact with fiction, debut author DCS has opened up a world that will force you to rethink everything you believe about your own. The knowledge within provokes the question; do you really want to know?

The Book Stacks is giving away a copy of Dr. Ronald J. Frederick’s Living Like You Mean It!

So many of us long to feel more alive, connected, and secure in our lives, particularly now, in these challenging and difficult times. Why is it so hard? Part of the problem, says Dr. Ronald J. Frederick, has to do with a fear of our feelings—a feelings‐phobia—and the consequences of expressing our feelings to others. It’s this fear that keeps us stuck, detached from the wisdom inside us and distanced from the people around us. And yet positive emotional experiences can actually “rewire” our brain and free us up to experience ourselves and our lives more fully. LIVING LIKE YOU MEAN IT: Use the Wisdom and Power of Your Emotions to Get the Life You Really Want by Ronald J. Frederick, shows how we can overcome our feelings phobia in order to enjoy more satisfying lives.

Bullets

Monday, June 1st, 2009

swimmingSome days bullets are just so much easier…

*My friend Jenera is holding a contest! Click here to find out how you can win an 8×10 print of your choice from Jenera Healy Photography.

*I think I’m starting to get baby brain again a little bit. I have found a weight loss plan that is healthy and is working, so Mr. JM has been joking that he will have to get his physical soon. (I’m insisting he get a full physical just to make sure he’s completely okay.) We have been talking about the future… It has been nice.

*We are still looking for jobs and houses all over Australia. Hopefully we can find something soon…

*That being said, we had our flat inspected last night because the rental agency felt some of our repair requests weren’t ‘urgent’. Pfft. I guess we have to wait and see what happens with that. I think I will be happy if we at least get our heater fixed, seeing as it is winter and all and the darn thing isn’t reliable…

*Crazily enough, the husband and I are also thinking about a short holiday. A week away somewhere. We can’t fly very far because it’s too expensive, but we’re thinking we’ll get off continental Australia. Where or when we’ll actually go…

*I have packed a few boxes for moving. It felt good and even a bit liberating. It’s nice to really feel like we are going to be improving our lives soon.

Ah. That was much easier than stringing together an entire post. Random thoughts are more fun, too.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Love Question 50 Winner!

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

This is a little late and I apologize for that. I have my reasons, but I’m sure you’re not interested in hearing them.

Anyway, it’s time to announce the winner!

Last week I invited you all to participate in a contest to win:

The prize pack includes:

*A 250g block of Cadbury milk chocolate
*An A5 size artist’s sketchbook (with the nice pages, not the annoying glossy ones)
*Random stickers
*A bookmark
*Four Australian postcards
*An Australian Aboriginal art notepad
*Fun envelopes - two different sizes
*Five simple thank-you cards made by yours truly
*A boomerang key chain with opal flecks in it.

And, of course, the awesome of awesome:

***A signed copy of Jenera Healy’s photography book with photos from Jenera Healy Photography. You can take a sneak peek at the book here. Did I mention it’s signed by Jenera? Signed!

There were two ways to win:

One way to win is to answer the question (which isn’t actually a question) in the blog comments. That gets your name in the bucket once.

OR

Another way to win is to post your answer on your blog and come back here to leave a link to it. That also gets your name in the bucket once. BUT, you have the opportunity to get your name in the bucket once more if you link to this post and/or this blog in your post.

Love Question 50:

Write a thank-you to someone you have had a long relationship with - family, friend, significant other, teacher, boss, anyone as long as it has been a long relationship…

After everything, it all came down to… one person.

Usually, that kind of turnout would encourage me to extend the contest for a little while longer, but given the winner is awesome and has been entering pretty much all my contests, it is my pleasure to congratulate…

Shannon!

I will be contacting you shortly to get your mailing address. Thank you for entering. I hope you enjoy your loot.

Love Question 50!

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Happy Love Question 50!

I am very happy to announce we have made it to Love Question 50. That means we’ve been doing this for nearly a year! Go figure, huh? Anyway, as promised, I have a contest with not one but two chances to win.

I’ll tell you something awesome: This contest is open to anyone no matter where you live.

I get so sick of those locationally specific contests (though I do understand why people do it) so I figure I’ll spread the love.

Of course, you really want to know:

What is up for grabs?

Well, I just so happen to have a nice little gift pack just for the winner of this contest. I don’t have a very good idea of what you all are into, so I put together a pack full of odds and ends that I would like to receive. The prize pack includes:

*A 250g block of Cadbury milk chocolate
*An A5 size artist’s sketchbook (with the nice pages, not the annoying glossy ones)
*Random stickers
*A bookmark
*Four Australian postcards
*An Australian Aboriginal art notepad
*Fun envelopes - two different sizes
*Five simple thank-you cards made by yours truly
*Other random surprises should I get the time to go shopping (I’ll add things to the list as I get them)

And, of course, the awesome of awesome:

***A signed copy of Jenera Healy’s photography book with photos from Jenera Healy Photography. You can take a sneak peek at the book here. Did I mention it’s signed by Jenera? Signed!

If that isn’t a random prize pack, I’m not sure what is. I think some people stopped reading after ‘block of chocolate’, though, so I’m sure it’s all good.

What do you have to do to win the loot?

There are two ways to win.

For the sake of the contest, we’re going to define a long relationship as longer than a year. If the person is a teacher, a school year will do. No other exceptions to time duration will be made. It is okay if the person is no longer living, so long as you had a significant relationship for a year or more.

Again, relationship can be family (sibling, parent, whatever), friend, romantic, or otherwise.

The contest is open until 3pm AEST next Thursday - the 14th. That’s either midnight or 1am May 14th New York time.

If you do answer on your blog, please spread the link love and link to:

Aud from Mom.Dad.Chat
Jenera at Just Me

I do ask that, if you win, you Pay It Forward, but that is not a requirement to win. (Obviously, seeing as you can’t pay it forward for winning without winning… Unless you can travel in time. Can you?)

Have fun!

Lend a Helping Hand and Win

chicken-soup-campus-chroniclesHello everyone!

I’ve decided to hold a contest that will be a good thing for everyone. I don’t feel right just asking for help without offering something in return, so I figured a contest would be the perfect way to do things.

I write for a site called The Bloggers Guide, writing articles all about my beloved Melbourne and surrounds. Currently, they have a contest running for the six regional winners from around the world. (I’m standing for Australasia.)

I’m hoping to not only win the grand prize but to also have at least some of my entries become popular enough to be published in The Bloggers Guide to Melbourne book. I very much need your help.

What You Can Win

Like I said, I don’t feel quite right asking for your help and giving nothing in return. What I’m offering you is… drumroll… a copy of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Campus Chronicles. (The one in the picture.)

Why this book? This recently published book just so happens to have a nonfiction story about a horror roommate of mine tucked in its pages.

I’m giving away three copies. If more than ten people enter, I will increase the number of copies to give away to five.

If you’re not keen on this book, just let me know and we’ll work something else out.

Winners of this (my) contest will be announced May 3rd.

How to Win

I very much hope you’ll go in and vote to help me, as it doesn’t take a lot of time and you don’t have to sign up to do so. However, there is no way to keep track of who voted. Because of that…

All you have to do is put up one post. Easy peasy. Just let your readers know what’s going on and that I’m looking for a little help from my friends (I’m going to get that song stuck in my head now). Put up a post with a little blurb, the links to where they can vote, and how they can also go in for a chance to win. (They must come back here to leave a link to their post to be entered.)

Where to Vote:

Go here: http://www.thebloggersguide.com/wbc and give five stars to The New Australian.

Go here: http://www.thebloggersguide.com/melbourne/the-new-australian and rate me at five stars again.

Lastly, go here: http://www.thebloggersguide.com/blogs/jmsilver That’s a list of all my blog entries. You can click on the “+” signs next to each entry.

Voting goes until May 1st, so be sure to check in often and cheer on The New Australian.

As always, thank you for your kindness and support.

Paying it Forward Contest Loot

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

pif-win

Aren’t these absolutely gorgeous? It makes me want to learn how to knit.

Remember the Pay It Forward comment contest? Well, a package arrived for me with what I won from Knitting Passion.

Really, this picture does not begin to cover how wonderful and gorgeous these are. Even my husband said, “Those are way too nice to just use as cloths. Maybe we can piece them together for a quilt or something.”

It would be a super small quilt, but you know it’s quality when Mr. JM is impressed.

Now, I haven’t forgotten about my promise. No one commented about any interest for blank embossed cards, but I really don’t know what else I can make that won’t take heaps (and heaps) of time and/or won’t incur massive shipping charges. So I do hope someone out there is interested. I’ll make a couple and put pictures up.

I went shopping yesterday and bought three different types of envelopes (fancy pink, fancy blue, plain blue) to go with the cards. If you win, you’ll have your choice of envelope. I can probably even give you a mix, if you prefer.

Three lots of five is what I’m planning on because that will take me long enough as it is. I don’t have a light table, so that makes the process quite a bit slower. Hm. I could do some stamp/watercolour ones too, as a bonus. Maybe I’ll just have a card-making day and give you your choice of them.

As you can see, I’m still in the planning stages, so if you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Paying It Forward Comment Contest

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

handsPay It Forward has always been an important philosophy in my life. Along with the Golden Rule, I have tried to do right and good by others. I have failed miserably quite often, but still the importance of kindness and generosity have stayed with me.

So, it is my pleasure to announce a contest on Knitting Passions from the coolest Alaskan lady I know.

Because it’s better to just have her explain it…

“Awhile back Woolgatherer posted an entry about paying it forward. She went on to say that SHE would like to run a bit of a contest to find others who would then pay it forward.

When it came time, seven names were covered with catnip and tossed in a bowl, stirred around, then tossed to the floor where the wool gathering kitties chose THEIR favorite. I received word this morning that certain kitties LOVE me. How cool are those kitties?!

Now comes my part in our deal . . . it is time for me to pay it forward to a reader of this blog. How to decide, though?”"

Well, she ended up deciding on a comment contest!

I was just thinking that this place could use a contest or two. I never thought it would come from someone else. But I am so enamored with the idea behind Barbara’s (and Woolgatherer’s) contest that I have entered and vowed to make something homemade and give it away in a contest.

“Why?” you ask.

Because that’s part of the deal.

“The caveat, as with Woolgatherer, is that (if you win) you must promise that you will then pay it forward in some fashion . . . and make a post about it, pointing back to this column. Okay? We’re all on the same page, right?”

So, if you care to enter, let me know what you’re vouching. I’ll be happy to promote you and your promise here at Long Relationships. And if you win and end up doing a contest of your own, I’ll promote that, too! (If you don’t have a blog, you can run a contest (within limits) here on site if you’d like.)

So have at it! Let me know if you enter.

Last Chance to Win

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

confetti.jpgHello everyone!

It’s hard to believe it’s already Thursday. A shoulder injury has me loathing computer work time a bit, and I will be glad once I am well and truly into the Australian long weekend.

Anyway, as you know, my first wedding anniversary was this past May 5th and since then I have been giving you chances to win some awesome prizes in celebration of the event. However, my goal was to get to 100 comments in one month.

…We aren’t quite there yet.

So here is everyone’s last chance to win some awesome Aussie prizes from yours truly.

As this is the last day and your last chance to win, I’m going to make things a little different.

You can still comment on the posts I have put up over this past month, but if you comment on this post, you must obey the rules.

This is a game of comment interaction. To keep the interaction going, you need to follow the rules: Answer the question of the person above you. Whenever you comment, you answer the question of the person above you (I will end this post with a question) and leave a question of your own.

You can also answer anyone else’s questions, but you have to make sure you at least answer the question from the person above you.

It’s as easy as that. Answer a question and ask a question in the same comment.

(I hope I’m making sense. Tiredness and shoulder pain may have gone to my brain.)

Try to keep the questions to the general site topic, but feel free to let the conversation flow. I will announce any and all winners tomorrow, so be sure to stop here throughout the day to join the conversation as well as stop by tomorrow to see if you have won.

My question is…

What is one thing that has helped your relationship survive?

Our First Winner!

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

confetti.jpgYay! That’s right; we have our first winner of a very delicious block of DARK chocolate (and a couple of extra goodies thrown in just because). Everyone give your hearty congratulations to:

Sandra!

Sandra, who writes for Parenting Under the Stars here on the 451 network, won with her comment on Love Me to Love You?:

“I wouldn’t say I was at my highest point in self confidence when I married either. Sometimes you can grow together and make each other stronger though. I think the fact that you were careful with each other’s feelings is wonderful.

Just because someone appears to have higher self esteem or confidence doesn’t mean it’s ok to be highly critical or insulting either. Anyway I think being sensitive to others is a good quality and I would take that over some overly confident cocky insulter any day.?

If you would like to win your own lovely block of chocolate, don’t worry! There are still two blocks of milk chocolate and one block of dark chocolate waiting to be grabbed up by the person who lands on the right number comment.

Also remember that there is a special Australian prize pack waiting to go out to the person who makes the 100th comment. That won’t happen, though, unless we reach 100 comments by June 5th!

So keep stopping by and speaking your mind for your chance to win!

Contest Reminder

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

confetti.jpgNo, we don’t have a winner yet, but let’s just say we’re very close! So keep stopping by and speaking your mind!

Just in case you weren’t aware, I thought I would let everyone know that there is a yummy contest going on here at Long Relationships. I am giving away not one but four yummy blocks of chocolate. I have two milk chocolate blocks and two dark chocolate blocks, so be sure to speak up about what kind of chocolate you like best!

And that’s all you have to do. Comment. Speak your mind. Say anything you like as long as it isn’t spam and you have a chance to win. If you are the right number comment, you could win your very own block of yummy chocolate.

Not only that; if you’re the 100th commenter, then I have a very special Australian prize pack to send you filled with a lot of excellent Australian goodies.

So speak your mind and win! (It’s a lot better than people telling you to be quiet, isn’t it?)

If you weren’t aware, I have a similar contest happening over on Fiction Scribe (and there has already been one winner over there!), so if you want to throw your hat in for a chance to win one of the remaining nine prizes between the two sites, jump in on or start a conversation.

You can win not only chocolate but a fun stationary pack with other goodies or grab another chance at the 100th commenter Aussie prize pack.

Best of luck!
